Fact: July 1st is the Emancipation Day in Suriname called “Keti Koti” (Saramaccan for “the chains are broken”). It is a huge holiday both in the villages and Paramaribo.

Fact: I have been in Suriname for over a year now (as of May 5, 2012) and come this July 16th, I will have hit the one year mark in Ligorio!
